Terms of Service

1. Acceptance

By creating an account or using Mezzo, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the service. These terms constitute a binding agreement between you and Mezzo.

2. The service

Mezzo is a private messaging platform built around the concept of modes — distinct identities that let you communicate with different people in different contexts. Features include direct messaging, broadcast channels, connection requests, and optional AI-assisted writing tools.

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service at any time, with reasonable notice where possible.

3. Accounts

You must provide accurate information when creating your account. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.

You must be at least 16 years old to use Mezzo. By creating an account you confirm you meet this requirement.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to use Mezzo to:

• Send spam, unsolicited messages, or bulk commercial communications.
• Harass, threaten, or abuse other users.
• Distribute malware, phishing content, or other harmful material.
• Impersonate another person or entity.
• Violate any applicable law or regulation.
• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to other users accounts or the underlying infrastructure.
• Use automated means to access the service without our express written permission.

5. Modes and public profiles

Modes marked as public are visible on your shareable profile page at /m/[username]/[mode]. You are responsible for the content you publish on public mode profiles, including bios and broadcast messages.

Broadcast modes allow you to send one-way messages to subscribers. You must not use broadcast modes for spam or misleading content. Subscribers can unsubscribe at any time.

6. Content and ownership

You retain ownership of all content you create on Mezzo. By using the service, you grant Mezzo a limited, non-exclusive licence to store and transmit your content solely for the purpose of operating the service.

We do not claim any rights over your messages, files, or other content beyond what is necessary to provide the service.

7. Subscriptions and billing

The free plan includes up to 5 modes and 200 messages per month. The Pro plan is available for £8/month and includes unlimited modes, unlimited messages, and access to AI features.

Subscriptions are billed monthly or annually via Stripe. You may cancel at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period and you will not receive a pro-rata refund for unused time unless required by applicable law.

We reserve the right to change pricing with at least 30 days notice to existing subscribers.

8. AI features

AI features are powered by OpenAI and are provided on a best-effort basis. Outputs may be inaccurate, incomplete, or unsuitable for your purpose. You are solely responsible for reviewing and taking responsibility for any AI-generated content before sending it.

9. Limitation of liability

Mezzo is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the service, including but not limited to loss of data, revenue, or profits.

Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these terms or your use of Mezzo shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

10. Termination

You may delete your account at any time via Settings. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms, with or without notice depending on the severity of the violation.

Upon termination, your access to the service will end and your data will be deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by email or in-app notice at least 14 days before taking effect. Continued use of Mezzo after that point constitutes acceptance.
